Introduction
The proverb "What is play to one is death to another" teaches us that actions that may seem fun or harmless to some can have serious consequences for others. This story illustrates how even playful behavior can hurt someone when we don't think about the effects of our actions on others. It shows the importance of being thoughtful and kind in everything we do.
What is Play to One is Death to Another
Once upon a time, in a peaceful village, there was a beautiful pond where many creatures lived happily. Fish swam in its waters, frogs croaked on the lily pads, and dragonflies danced above the surface. It was a perfect place for all kinds of animals to live.
Near the pond, there lived a group of children who loved to play by the water. They would often throw stones into the pond, watch the ripples spread, and laugh as they tried to make the biggest splash. To the children, it was all just harmless fun.
One day, a boy named Rafi and his friends gathered by the pond with a new game in mind. They decided to see who could throw the largest stone into the water. One by one, they picked up big stones and hurled them into the pond, laughing loudly as the water splashed high into the air.
But beneath the surface of the water, the fish and other small creatures were terrified. The heavy stones were crashing down into their homes, disturbing the peaceful pond. A small fish named Finny was swimming near the bottom of the pond when one of the stones hit close to him. Frightened, he quickly swam away, but the rocks continued to fall.
As the game went on, one of the biggest stones hit a spot where many fish had laid their eggs. The force of the stone shattered the eggs, ending the lives of the unborn fish. Finny and his family watched in horror, unable to do anything to stop the destruction.
Meanwhile, the children had no idea of the damage they were causing. To them, it was just a game. But to the creatures in the pond, it was a matter of life and death. What was fun and play for Rafi and his friends had turned into a tragedy for the fish and other small creatures that lived in the pond.
Later that evening, as the children were walking home, an elderly man who had been watching them approached. "Children," he said, "do you realize what you have done today?"
Confused, Rafi replied, "We were just playing by the pond, grandfather."
The old man nodded and said, "It may have been play to you, but to the creatures living in the pond, it was destruction. Many lives were lost today because of your game."
The children were shocked and ashamed. They had not thought about how their actions affected others. They realized that even though they were just having fun, their behavior had caused great harm.
From that day on, Rafi and his friends promised to be more careful and considerate, not only towards people but also to animals and nature. They learned that their actions, even if meant for fun, could have serious consequences for others.
Conclusion
This story teaches us that we must always think about how our actions affect others. What may seem like fun or a harmless game to us might be dangerous or harmful to someone else. By being considerate and mindful of the world around us, we can avoid causing harm and live more responsibly.
